Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20 1964, is an American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice president , and the most powerful female politician in U.S. history, as being the first African American and first Asian American vice president. She is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she was an United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then, she was recruited by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010, she was elected Attorney General of California and re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. In her time as a senator, she pushed for health reform, federal descheduling of cannabis, a pathway for undocumented immigrants to become citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also backed progressive tax reform. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings earned her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
